Roger Mcguinn presents Treasures From The Folkden

The legendary folk/rock singer, Roger McGuinn (the Byrds) brings together friends and influences on 2001’s Treasures From The Folkden. He duets Judy Collins, Tommy Makem, Pete Seeger and others

This is a heartfelt reading of traditional folksongs by some of the best. But alas it does not live up to all the good press it got. The album is at its worst (which is most of it) a milieu of stwangy guitars and banjo! and way too much-vocal overdub of McGuinn.

The best on the record is the simplest – Dink’s Song and the fiddle work of Eliza Carthy which adds a special touch. It proves a simple fact: Folk music can be good or bad but this does not matter, all it asks for is enthusiasm.
